What is the the process for commissioning an instrument?
The process of commissioning an instrument begins with a conversation with Zachary Moen about the details of your perfect instrument. Based on this conversation, if the relationship is a good fit, Zachary Moen will suggest a model that is tailored to your needs and suggested wood options. If you accept, you will be presented with a Commission Agreement that outlines the terms of the commission, including price and delivery date. Work will begin once the signed Commission Agreement is received.
Once work begins, you will receive regular updates of progress with photos of the instrument under construction.
What is the price of commissioning an instrument?
The price of a commissioned instrument varies based on the specific attributes of the instrument selected, but in general the price range for commissioned instruments is:
Violin and Viola: $16,000.00 to $20,000.00
Cello: $25,000.00 to $30,000.00
Is a deposit required?
Yes. A deposit of $1000.00 is required to begin work on your instrument.
How long does it take to get the instrument?
An approximate delivery date will be provided to you before work begins on your instrument. Delivery times vary based on the other instruments in process but typically is between 6-12 months from the date of order.
What if I'm unsatisfied with the instrument?
In the event that you are unsatisfied with your commissioned instrument for any reason you may return it within thirty (30) days of delivery for a full refund of the purchase price minus the cost to repair to any wear or damage incurred while the instrument was in your possession. You are responsible for all shipping and other costs incurred to return the instrument to the Studio. Refunds will be paid within thirty (30) days of receipt of the returned instrument.
